ALIX with AstLinux failed

ALIX as my home ip-pbx finished its life very fast. After two days test I realized that Asterisk looses registration to sip provider very fast and no re-registration occurs. No event was able to puch it registare. It was not config issue, because the same config worked on some other stuff and works now continously on my e-pc old vectra.

I will test ALIX with some other software but just for test.

Cisco IP phone on ProCurve

I faced a problem with vlans in ip telephony network.
It is not so easy like when all devices are from one brand – Cisco. I dig net and many advices was unclear or took many replies on forums, so I wrote all tasks needed I hope clearly.

1. Make sure phones support LLDP
2. Enable LLDP on proper ports, also on uplink ports to other switches (looks the first switch doesn’t need LLDP on port to router)
3. Create DHCP pools on router or PC, remeber about option 150 for VOICE vlan
4. Create vlans on ProCurve switch that match (of course) vlans on router
5. Mark Voice vlan as voice
6. Mark DATA VLAN as UNTAGGED and VOICE VLAN as TAGGED on required ports
7. QoS marking in vlans is not needed

For me works fine!

How to record g729 prompts

Some time ago I needed to prepare g729 prompts for IPCCX. It is not easy task so I can share the idea. By the way learned from someone who found that on Cisco pages.
So, if you will check any number of music or sound software you probably will not find a solution. The software is not a problem, but driver for codec g729 which is licensed.
However Asterisk or IPCCX can play g729 prompts there is no tool to convert any music file to g729 format. Of course you can try with CallManager MOH as converter but this solution is not comfortable.

OK, if you have access to Cisco Unity (not Express version) look for a file sl_g729a_setup.exe. Probably at CommServerUtilities. Install this, reboot and next time with any music or sound tool you will have an option to save as g729 file.

Any other option? Yes, look for web converter to do it file by file.

ALIX with AstLinux

After some isues with preparing Comapct Flash memory cards I tested some editions. One for PC and another for ALIX embedded. Seems 2GB cards is good enough even for additional sounds files, recording, voicemail messages etc.

Machine power is with enough spare for home voip and SMB. Then It lefts me to test how all work. VoIP provider tested only with phone is good, however it is a pity doesn’t provide called number for incoming calls.

ALIX + AstLinux is a perfect solution. Still need to prepare my language prompts, digits, letters etc.
